Newsletter blurb

Paste into this week's issue.

10 September is World Suicide Prevention Day. Suicide can affect any of us, and talking openly and kindly can make a real difference. If you are struggling, you do not have to cope alone. You can contact our employee assistance programme at [link to EAP], or reach a helpline such as Samaritans on 116 123 in the UK and Ireland or the 988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline in the US. If you are worried about a colleague, ask them how they are doing and listen.

Slack / Teams post

For the company channel on the day.

It's World Suicide Prevention Day. If you're struggling, please reach out to someone you trust or to our employee assistance programme, and if you're worried about someone, asking how they are really can help.

Talking points

For managers and team leads.

- Asking someone directly how they are doing, and listening, can make a real difference. - Know where to signpost people, including the employee assistance programme and local helplines. - Use careful language, such as died by suicide rather than committed suicide.

Tone note

How to pitch it.

Follow safe-messaging guidance: never include details of methods, always signpost helplines and support, and say died by suicide rather than committed suicide. Remember that some colleagues may have been personally bereaved, so keep the tone gentle and avoid sensational language.
