World Alzheimer's Day

World Alzheimer's Day is held on 21 September to raise awareness of Alzheimer's disease and other forms of dementia. It is also a chance to recognise the many people who care for someone living with dementia, often alongside work.

21 September is World Alzheimer's Day. Dementia touches a lot of families, and some of us are balancing work with caring for a parent, partner or relative living with it. If that's you, you don't have to manage alone. Talk to your manager about flexibility, and see the support available to carers at [link to carers policy]. For everyone else, it's worth learning a little about the signs of dementia and how to support someone affected.

Slack / Teams post

For the company channel on the day.

It's World Alzheimer's Day. If you're caring for someone living with dementia, please know you can talk to your manager or HR about flexibility and support.

Talking points

For managers and team leads.

- Many working carers don't mention their caring role, so make it easy to raise. - Be open to flexible working conversations with colleagues supporting someone with dementia. - Point to the carers policy, the employee assistance programme and any carers network.

Tone note

How to pitch it.

Keep it compassionate and practical. Caring for someone with dementia can be exhausting and private, so offer support without asking people to share their circumstances.

  1. Plan ahead — Add World Alzheimer's Day to your content calendar at least 2 weeks before the date so you have time to gather content and images.
  2. Choose your angle — Will you run a dedicated special edition, or include it as a section in your regular newsletter? Bigger events work well as specials; smaller ones fit into your weekly digest.
