Pancake Day (Shrove Tuesday)

Pancake Day, or Shrove Tuesday, is the day before Ash Wednesday and the start of Lent. It is traditionally marked in the UK by making pancakes, once a way to use up rich foods before the Lenten fast.

It's Pancake Day, otherwise known as Shrove Tuesday, the day before Lent begins. Whether you're firmly lemon and sugar or something more adventurous, we'd love to hear your favourite topping. Share a photo of your best or worst flip in [channel], or join us for pancakes at [date/time]. There's no pressure to take part, and there will be options for different diets so everyone can join in if they'd like to.

Slack / Teams post

For the company channel on the day.

Happy Pancake Day. Lemon and sugar, or something else entirely? Tell us your go-to topping.

Talking points

For managers and team leads.

- Keep it light and fun, as a chance for a bit of team connection. - Offer options for different diets, including vegan, gluten-free and allergen-aware choices. - Remember that for some colleagues it marks the start of Lent, a time of reflection.

Tone note

How to pitch it.

Keep it light and inclusive, with no pressure to eat or take part. In some years Ramadan is under way at the same time, so avoid food-centred events that leave fasting colleagues out, or offer something to take home.
