Holocaust Memorial Day

Holocaust Memorial Day is held on 27 January, the anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau in 1945, and is also the UN's International Holocaust Remembrance Day. In the UK it remembers the six million Jews murdered in the Holocaust, the millions of other victims of Nazi persecution, and the people killed in later genocides in Cambodia, Rwanda, Bosnia and Darfur.

27 January is Holocaust Memorial Day, the anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau. We pause to remember the six million Jewish men, women and children murdered in the Holocaust, the millions of others persecuted by the Nazi regime, and the victims of later genocides in Cambodia, Rwanda, Bosnia and Darfur. You may wish to observe a moment of silence, read or listen to a survivor's testimony, or attend a local or online commemoration. Details of anything we're holding are at [link].

Today is Holocaust Memorial Day. We remember the six million Jews murdered in the Holocaust, all victims of Nazi persecution, and those killed in later genocides.

Talking points

For managers and team leads.

- Mark the day with quiet respect, not as a celebration or campaign. - Some colleagues may have family histories connected to the Holocaust or later genocides, so let them choose whether to take part. - Point people to reputable sources, such as survivor testimonies, for learning.

Tone note

How to pitch it.

This is a solemn day of remembrance, so keep the tone sober, avoid upbeat language, imagery or branding, and don't place it beside lighter news. Never ask colleagues to share personal or family connections; let them opt in.
