Newsletter blurb

Paste into this week's issue.

Dry January runs through the month, and some colleagues will be taking part. If you're one of them, good luck, and you'll find tips and support from Alcohol Change UK online. Whether you're joining in or not, we're making sure there are good alcohol-free options at our socials, this month and beyond. If you're planning a team get-together, why not try something that isn't centred on a drink, such as a lunch, a walk or a quiz?

Slack / Teams post

For the company channel on the day.

Dry January is under way. If you're taking part, good luck, and if you're planning a team social, a lunch or a quiz works for everyone.

Talking points

For managers and team leads.

- Taking part is entirely optional, and nobody needs to explain whether or not they drink. - Make sure socials have good alcohol-free options all year, not just in January. - Point anyone who wants support with alcohol to the employee assistance programme, privately.

Tone note

How to pitch it.

Keep it opt-in and low-key, with no policing, leaderboards or questions about who is drinking. Many colleagues don't drink for reasons of faith, health or recovery, so avoid treating not drinking as unusual.

How to feature this in your newsletter

  1. Plan ahead — Add Dry January to your content calendar at least 2 weeks before the date so you have time to gather content and images.
  2. Choose your angle — Will you run a dedicated special edition, or include it as a section in your regular newsletter? Bigger events work well as specials; smaller ones fit into your weekly digest.
  3. Involve your people — Ask employees to share their stories, experiences, or ideas related to Dry January. User-generated content always gets higher engagement.
  4. Include a call to action — Give readers something to do: attend an event, share a message, learn something new, or donate to a cause.
